Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol employed to encode the data exchanged between a hosting server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to protect the data which clients submit on your Internet site - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, etc. Any data they type in in any box on the Internet site shall be submitted safely and securely to the server, so their login or payment data will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. In general, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be installed, meaning that the overall cost for your web presence will be bigger. While this might not be an issue for a larger enterprise, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small web store which does not generate big profits if additional money should be spent. This is the key reason why we've taken advantage of an extension known as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Cloud Hosting

You will be able to use this option with all our cloud hosting solutions and with any SSL certificate issued from any vendor. If you choose to use an SSL from our company, everything shall be set up automatically and you'll not have to do anything after you purchase and approve the certificate. The SSL order wizard will allow you to select a shared IP address to be used and the SSL to be installed by our system, so using this function requires a maximum of two additional mouse clicks after you fill the needed info for the certificate. The adequate operation of the SSL won't be influenced in any way and any details which website visitors submit on your website will be encrypted and secured in the exact same way. The only big difference from employing a dedicated address is that http:// will not open your website, but it is extremely unlikely that anybody will ever try to access it that way instead of inputting your domain name in the browser URL bar.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Any SSL certificate can be used with our specially configured shared IPs, thus if you have a semi-dedicated hosting account, you could use this option with only several clicks when you install a certificate you acquire through us or through another vendor. For the SSLs we offer you are also able to take advantage of an additional function and have our system set everything up for you. This way the moment you approve the SSL, the shared IP will be set for the given domain name or subdomain and the certificate shall be installed without any action expected on your end, and thus any info that site visitors submit on your website will be secure. The SSL will function in the same exact way no matter if it's set on a shared or a dedicated IP and the only thing which is different between the two setups is that entering the shared IP address as a URL in an Internet browser shall not open your website.
